cameras, frozen yogurt and 5 kids in a 4 seater

sunday was quite magical; hanging with new friends, giggling and driving around the world in my little bug.

started off at the sydney camera market with caitlin and brandon in the morn, browsing the tables and frothing over all the delicious cameras on display. i naturally didn't come away empty handed; i have a new fold out toy that i've already started snapping with- i'm hoping to have the roll finished by the end of the week so i can share the resulting lovelies. new cameras just make me so happy. fiddling with all the knobs and levers and blundering through all the gadgets and twisty bits, pulling instead of pushing and all that jazz. just makes me shiver with glee.

the day then lulled into night with a glorious jumble of here and there; pitt st for tea and banana chips, then bundling 5 into my 4 seater (3 lovely boys with their knees up to their chins in the backseat) and driving to shakespeares for the best $10 dinner in a room far too small for the table it featured, spreading out across the 20 varying plush seats underneath the rather endearing antler encrusted chandelier. from there we proceeded to drive back to pitt st, then to bondi for coffee, getting there to find the coffee shop had closed an hour previously, settling for frozen yogurt (detested!) instead, then meandering down to the bowl where caitlin and i dangled our legs over the edge and watched the boys being boys, rolling around in the puddles at the bottom of the bowl while we remained reasonably dry and warm (blanket-wrapped and all).

it makes me happy to know that summer is only 35 days away...

oh, and did i mention that i'm in love?

i love..

..lying on a towel in my backyard on a hot day, reading a good book, ants crawling over my legs, and feeling the sun on my skin, in my hair and under my eyelids.

i love making pizzas at home. my recent favourite has been a half-half pizza, one side with thinly sliced potato, fresh rosemary, sea salt and a drizzle of yummy olive oil, the other side with an olive tapenade base topped with broccoli, cherry tomatoes, fetta and mushrooms.

i sewed some poppies a few weeks ago, and i just adore watching them grow, they're such a welcome burst of colour in my still sleepy garden. i will never get tired of taking photos of the flowers that pop up out of the greenery; it's why i love spring so much, the surprise of plants you'd forgotten about, or the ones you never planted to begin with... the wild mint is also making a reappearance, which is always delightful. i miss the days of walking down my front path through a cloud of minty pefume, ahh!

finally some relevance

originally i decided to start a blog with the purpose of documenting my uni work, but since then i've deviated more towards posting my every day (perhaps an indication of my true selfish loyalties), and have failed to upload even the smallest reference to my major work progression.

i had a brilliant experience with my darling caitlin, finally managing to take some long overdue flicks for the grad show catalogue, and so i've lounged into a productive few weeks of happy, albeit slightly lethargic, inspiration, and thus i think it's about time to posted up even just a small idea of where i'm at or where i'm headed with this over appreciated work of mine.

home-made strawberry sorbet

makes me happy with its frosty crimson goodness!

and so simple; heat 2 punnets of strawberries and a tablespoon of raw sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. once the the berries have released all their juicy sauce spoon out the fruit (and eat hot with good vanilla icecream, yum!) and combine the remaining liquid with a splash of blackcurrant juice (optional), a teaspoon of arrowroot and mix over the stove until thick and smooth. if you like your strawberries with a bit of a punch you can squeeze in some fresh lemon or lime juice for a little extra tang. or, if it's your kind of thing, you can throw in some finely chopped mint, or basil. and it's ready to freeze! it doesn't make much, so if you aren't fussy about lumps you can leave the fruit in and blend it to make a thicker, more wholesome frozen fruit treat.
this recipe also serves as a great strawberry sauce, just serve as is without freezing ontop of cakes, yogurt or icecream!

now i'm off to devour my little pot of sorbet perfection..

tea parties, frolicking and the obi

i've just arrived home from a glorious week of tea, op shops and general frolicking, and i'm feeling happy, exhausted and full of country air. i've been lazy about writing of late, and i don't think i can break the trend now; simply too many adventures to justify. so i shall document with photos, yet again.
